Loch Ashie Spillway
The existing headworks and spillway at Loch Ashie was identified during one of the 10 yearly Inspections required under the Reservoirs Act as not being sufficient to pass the 1 in 10,000 year design flood.
As a result, a new wider spillway together with associated embankments and improved outflow channel was required.
The design, completed under the control of an All Reservoirs Panel Engineer, was finally constructed and commissioned for Scottish Water Solutions (who were responsible for managing the project’s delivery as part of the QS2 Capital Investment Programme on behalf of Scottish Water).
The reinforced concrete structure will help to ensure the security of the supply of water to Inverness as well as preventing a potentially serious failure of the reservoir during flood events.
